Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University seeks a creative front-end Web Designer to join the Information Technology department in a teleworking arrangement. The Web Designer will help promote Embry-Riddle through the design, development and implementation of user-focused solutions for websites, digital signs, email templates and other digital properties.

Reporting to the Director of Web Design, Experience and Optimization, the Web Designer will create user-centric, visually pleasing, responsive and accessible experiences for our website and digital properties. They will work with colleagues across the university to understand user needs, design and develop user-friendly deliverables, and collaborate with the development team to implement approved designs. The Web Designer will work with content, usability and accessibility staff to ensure designs and design components meet usability, accessibility and brand standards, as well as digital best practices.

Job Duties

  1. Design and develop reusable and scalable web components and digital assets for enterprise-wide systems. Consider ways to re-use or enhance existing components in designs, where applicable. Hand off tested and fully functional front-end code to the IT Development team.
  2. Collaborate with university colleagues to deliver functional, intuitive designs and user experiences from concept to implementation. This includes research, conceptual design, detailed design/mockups, prototyping and implementation of user-research findings and recommendations.
  3. Test all prototypes and designs for browser compatibility, mobile responsiveness, accessibility compliance, usability best practices, design standards, and that they align with user-experience research.
  4. Assist with the development and maintenance of a digital design system/library that maintains a cohesive visual identity throughout our digital presence.
  5. Lead efforts to enhance designs and experiences by leveraging state-of-the-art techniques, methods and emerging digital trends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in graphic design, user experience or related field required
  • 5-10 years of related work experience required
  • Demonstrated experience in website design and mobile-first design with a strong portfolio.
  • Proficiency in content management systems, Sitecore and Sharepoint Online preferred.
  • Proficiency in visual design and wireframing tools including Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, as well as integrating interfaces with data systems through APIs.
  • Knowledge of W3C web standards, ADA and WCAG 2.2 compliance standards, and usability best practices.
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects, consistently meeting deadlines and adjusting to evolving priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both cooperatively and independently.
  • Innovative self-starter with the ability to assess problems and implement solutions.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Effective and clear communicator (written and verbal); comfortable managing stakeholder relationships.

  • Higher education experience preferred
