Job Description
SUMMARY At the Guarnerio lab, we're dedicated to unraveling the complex molecular mechanisms used by tumor cells to create a pro-tumorigenic tumor microenvironment (TME). We utilize cutting-edge technologies like single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics to study both mouse and human tissues. Our research is deeply rooted in translational science, with the goal of developing innovative cancer therapies that reprogram tumor cells and the TME.
Our recent publications include:
- Study of the MIF/CD74 axis in pro-tumorigenic macrophages (Tessaro et al., Cell Reports, 2022)
- Identification of anti-inflammatory, tumor-promoting circular RNAs (Piras et al., Nat Comm, 2022)
- Characterization of glyCAFs and T cell exclusion from the tumor mass (Broz et al., Nat Comm, 2024)
We are looking to recruit a
Research Assistant I to help achieve our goals. The primary responsibility is to perform technical laboratory duties and carry out one of these exciting projects:
- Cancer-Associated Fibroblasts (CAF): Investigate their role in promoting tumor growth and immune exclusion.
- Circular RNAs: Explore novel mechanisms of immune exclusion and evasion.
- Sarcoma Stem/Progenitor Cells: Identify new tumor vulnerabilities and therapeutic targets.
Ideal candidate will demonstrate technical proficiency in cell culture and possess a foundational understanding of molecular and cellular biology assays. Previous experience in mouse work and flow cytometry is preferred but not required. Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset are essential, along with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.KEY FUNCTIONS - Organizes laboratory supplies and perform other lab duties as assigned, including but not limited to Prepare sterile media, buffers and stock solutions.
- Organize and execute experiments in a dynamic environment.
- Execute experiments and critically analyze the results under the supervision of the PI or other lab members. Follow lab protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Process and evaluate data obtained in accordance with methods requested. Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental data and protocols.
- Present data at lab meetings to contribute to scientific discussions.
- Assist in drafting study protocols under the guidance of the PI.
- Learn new lab techniques and gain expertise in cancer biology.
