Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC college of Medicine has a reputation for training best in class health care professionals and developing cutting edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.

The College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology, is recruiting for a full-time Research Assistant, in the laboratory of Leukemia and Drug Development Laboratory (LDDL), to help conduct research in hematology.

The LDDL is in the CARE/Crawley building on University of Cincinnati’s East Campus. We are a collaborative team focused on studying etiology, pathogenesis, treatment, and cure of hematological malignancies. Essential Functions

• Document and organize research results and data according to NIH’s preferred good laboratory management practices (LabArchives).
• Assist with the coordination of research studies in hematology.
• Make contributions to projects and studies based on evidence-based literature.
• Independently work on projects and troubleshoot problems.
• Perform statistical and graphical analysis of data, interpretation of data, and validity of testing.
• Maintain timely project goals, deadlines, and studies for contributions to publications and grant funding applications.
• Apply scientific skills and knowledge to demonstrate technical capabilities of single cell platforms.
• Analyze and communicate results and data analysis from high throughput sequencing platforms.
• Share responsibility with other lab members for lab maintenance, including possible ordering and stocking of laboratory supplies and maintenance of lab inventory.
• Molecular biology techniques:
  • General cell culture
  • Tissue culture and related wet lab techniques (i.e. western blotting, functional assays).
  • Flow cytometry.
  • Animal tissues handling
  • Preparation of novel therapeutics for in vivo studies.
  • Optimize and perform in vitro immune assays.
  • Basic handling of DNA and RNA techniques including sample isolation, PCR, and preparation of samples for sequencing.
  • Gene editing of cell lines and primary cells with CRISPR-Cas9 or viral vectors.

Required Education

• Bachelor’s Degree (i.e. Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field).
• Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Additional Qualifications Considered

• Master’s degree in a clinical or scientific discipline.
• Prior research experience in a laboratory setting.
• In-depth knowledge of translational research laboratory practices.
• Experience with specialized software (i.e. Microsoft Suite, Lab archives, GraphPad).
