The
Junior Hydrogeologist / Environmental Consultant will be based out of
Vancouver, British Columbia (or surrounding areas). PGL employees work a 37.5-hour work week and all employees are fully equipped to work from home; however, working days in the local offices (Vancouver or Langley) are encouraged for career development and face to face project team interactions.
This role will work with our hydrogeologists and project managers, and be involved with planning and executing field work, and reporting for a wide range of water resource projects in BC, mainly within Vancouver or surrounding areas. Projects will vary and will include physical and contaminant hydrogeological investigations and impact assessments, water resource assessments, and support on the implementation of remediation programs. The work will be completed for a variety of clients including commercial, financial, developer, municipal and First Nation clients, and may require communications with the Ministry or other approval bodies.
This person will be primarily responsible for leading hydrogeological field investigation and data collection including drilling and monitoring well installation, groundwater well development and sampling, well response testing, infiltration testing, tidal monitoring, pump testing and other related data collection methods in accordance with field protocols and best practices. This person would work closely with intermediate and senior hydrogeologists to analyze the data and prepare reports. With experience, this person would also be responsible for the training and oversight of other staff in all pertinent hydrogeological field methods.
Responsibilities: - Conduct and manage hydrogeological and water resource investigation and monitoring
- Assess and interpret hydrogeological conditions from geological maps, reports, survey plans, air photos as well as collected physical and chemical data
- Hydrogeological data analysis including estimating hydrogeological and hydrological parameters, interpreting groundwater contaminant transport and receptors; evaluating surface water and groundwater connectivity
- Conduct all levels of contaminated site investigations including hydrogeological investigation
- Contribute to the development of internal protocols and procedures
- Contribute to PGL’s corporate initiatives.
Job Requirements: - Undergraduate or graduate degree in hydrogeology (or a related field)
- 1-5 years of Hydrogeology or related experience, including :
- Experience planning and/or executing hydraulic conductivity tests (slug tests)
- Analysis of hydraulic conductivity test results (experience with AQTESOLV is an asset)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a multi-disciplinary team
- Excellent communication and time-management skills
- Ability to travel and work in potentially remote locations
- Ability to work hours based on project requirements
- Technical writing experience is considered an asset
- A working knowledge of Provincial, Territorial and Canadian environmental regulations, guidelines and standards is an asset.
- Valid Driver’s license required.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 25 lbs. for short durations.
