Under the direction of the IT Supervisor II of the EFIS/IMMS unit, the incumbent serves as a developer/ technical specialist to support and maintain the Caltrans Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial application. The main responsibility is to support the Advantage Financial Application (Advantage) and the FI$Cal project. The full responsibilities include supporting and developing workflow, interfaces, and data conversion, which include analysis, design, development, test, maintain, fix defects. The incumbent participates in the development and documentation of new system design specifications, processes and procedures that align with Caltrans application development standards and best practices. Participates and contributes to project planning, project status reports, technical oversight, quality and scope management. The incumbent must have the ability to understand and apply information engineering, data and process models, web-based technologies, Enterprise and cloud environments. Participates in special Information Technology projects as required. The incumbent must have in-depth programming skills in Java, and or related programming languages, and tools. The incumbent should have in-depth knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Change Management processes, and Maintenance and Operation of applications to ensure business continuity. The incumbent should be proficient in Oracle Procedural Language for SQL (PL/SQL) or SQL, have experience in extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) of data and ETL tools.

Working Conditions

This position is located at 1500 5th Street, Sacramento, Sacramento County

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

If not working remotely, the employee will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting using a personal computer. Employee may be required to travel. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle. If the employee has utilizes their own personal vehicle, they may be reimbursed for travel expenses. When available, a State vehicle will be provided. Some weekend or after-hours or holiday work may be required. The employee must carry a cell phone and respond to calls after hours to participate in multidisciplinary IT professionals’ team(s) in organizing, analyzing, troubleshooting and resolving IT system problems; may travel to various Caltrans locations to provide expertise for IT operations.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
