What We Need

Ohio EPA Environmental Specialist 2

What We Do

At the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, our primary goal is to protect the environment and public health. We do this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws.

What We Need YOU To Do

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Drinking and Groundwater (DDAGW), located at our Central Office in Franklin County.

Ah, there you are. We knew you’d be stopping by.

As DDAGW’s environmental specialist, you will implement Ohio’s Source Water Assessment and Protection (SWAP) Program, applying geological skills in generating and reviewing documents and conveying pertinent information internally and externally. You will assist public water systems with source water protection planning, including the development and implementation of protective strategies to reduce the potential for source water contamination. You will also get to perform public outreach, including giving presentations to local government, county and soil and water conservation districts, state and federal agencies, and professional conferences related to source water protection and ground water resources in Ohio. Additionally, you will help in the development and revisioning of procedures, guidance, fact sheets, newsletters, brochures, and other informational materials to assist DDAGW in implementing Ohio’s SWAP Program.

You will be conducting work pertaining to Ohio’s Statewide Ambient Ground Water Quality Monitoring Program, including semi-annual sampling to characterize ground water quality for major aquifers and evaluate spatial, temporal, and land use changes. You will interpret Ohio’s water well standards and hydrogeologic sensitivity assessments to determine pathogen sensitivity of a well or wellfield, as well as helping Ohio EPA’s Division of Surface Water’s evaluation of wastewater sites. Lastly, you will conduct special investigations of ground water contamination sites.

Here's the 2-minute drill.

  • Use hydrogeologic information to assess contamination threats to drinking water sources as a part of implementing Ohio’s Source Water Assessment and Protection (SWAP) Program.
  • Work with public water systems to develop and implement protective strategies.
  • Use ArcGIS Pro to make maps to show hydrogeologic data such as ground water flow direction, aquifer characteristics, and source water protection areas.
  • Conduct ground water sampling.
  • Evaluate hydrogeologic information to determine sites for public drinking water wells.
  • Review ground water monitoring reports and pumping tests and provide technical recommendations.
  • Provide technical ground water support to the Division of Surface Water.
