What You Can Expect As our Electrical Engineer Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Advisor, you will be responsible for supporting the utility scale operations group by acting as a technical leader, providing mentorship for junior engineers, ensuring the safe operation of the facilities, and collaborating across multiple disciples by participating in design reviews. In this position you will manage the electrical design of battery-based energy storage systems and thorough understanding of BESS architecture including rack, module, container and plant-level controls. You will be expected to prepare site acceptance test (SAT) and integration test plan for BESS systems. Technical review of documents provided by vendors. This position will be based out of the Houston, TX office and will be supporting assets in both US and Canada.
- Provide mentorship for Junior Engineers in technical matters relating to the operation of BESS and troubleshooting.
- Coordinate with various groups within the organization on technical matters and represent the Operations function in the various stages of the project design including review of drawings and studies.
- Perform complex engineering/design calculations specific to discipline (equipment sizing, load flow, short circuit, Arc flash, grounding, etc.)
- Interface with various system operators including ERCOT, PJM, SPP and MISO on technical issues including those related to operations planning and modelling.
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of commissioning, maintenance, and standard operating procedures.
- Review maintenance records and recommend corrective actions to ensure reliability and compliance with the applicable NERC standards.
- Develop structured feedback sessions for all lessons learned with the project team to include misoperations, root cause analysis (Six-sigma, DMAIC, fish-bone), and safety-related events
What You'll Bring - A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and utility experience
- A minimum of seven (7) years' of experience of directly relevant engineering experience working on energy storage systems
- Basic knowledge of SCADA networks and protocols such as MODBUS, DNP3, and any proprietary SCADA protocols.
- Working knowledge of battery chemistries and their impact on overall BESS system design
- Knowledge of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI
Additional Details - This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy with a minimum of three (3) days working in office
- Must be available to travel domestically up to 20% of the time
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license/clean driving record use of company vehicle, ability to drive to site locations
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
Compensation Salary Range: $112,000 - $172,500 USD annually
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
